Hi! Happy Thanksgiving! Let's talk about self-care for a moment. What is self-care? For me it is investing time for yourself so that you can be there for others. You can't take care of everyone else when you aren't healthy. As adults we sacrifice ourselves a lot to take care of our family. You can't drive a car on an empty tank as they say. Self-care is not selfish; it is essential for our well-being. Here are tips that I use for myself. I'm going to break it down in three topics; mind, body, and spirit.

Mind: 1. Address any mental health issues you may be experiencing. Seek professional help if you are unable to heal on your own. 2. Seek knowledge or pursue topics that interest you. I am always learning something new and I'm always on the hunt for new topics to study. 3. I play video games to help with cognitive function. That's right, at 57 years old I still play video games to help with short term memory and multi-tasking.

Body: 1. Invest in your health, eat as healthy as possible. Take baby steps and add in healthier options while lowering processed foods and sugar. 2. Exercise at least three times a week. The dreaded "E" word. It's true though. Don't think of it as a chore, think of it as necessary for mobility as we grow older. 3. Hygiene. Take a shower every day or at least every other day. It seems obvious but how clean you are directly impacts your mental health. Take care of your teeth. Unhealthy teeth can cause serious health concerns. Lastly, pamper your skin. Exfoliate your face and body to stimulate your skin and give it a glow. Use your favorite body lotion and moisturizer to keep your skin soft. At the bottom of this blog I have added some I have added my favorite lotion, face moisturizer, and shower gel to my shop and some links to those here:

Spirit: 1. Remember who you were when you were a teenager? Bold, optimistic, fearless. You felt like the world was yours for the taking. Within reason try to get back to that person before the world told you, you couldn't be. 2. Take joy in the little things. A sunrise, music, the sound of a child laughing etc. 3. Believe in a higher power. Believing in something larger than ourselves keeps us humble. It makes us realize that we play a very small part in the overall picture of life. An important one no question, but a small one, nevertheless. It also makes us feel secure in the knowledge that there is indeed something out there that is watching over us and taking care of us.

I hope these tips help you. I use them myself every day so that I can be there for my family.

Thank you for reading my blog. I will be posting a video about this topic as well. Take care and be well.
